Project Vanguard

Located in northeastern Oklahoma, NexGen’s initial undertaking (Project Vanguard) consists of two phases. Phase 1 is designed to capture approximately 3.6 million metric tons per year. Over the 20-year injection period, about 72 million metric tons will be captured. The CO2 will be sourced from a variety of industrial emitters including cement plants, fertilizer facilities, oil refineries and power generation stations.

Proposed CO2 Pipelines

Major Industrial CO2 Emitters

  • Secured surface leases comprising approximately 75,000 acres (Phase 1) for storing CO2 on which up to 12 injection and associated monitoring wells will be drilled.
  • Once operational, each well will inject for permanent storage a net of 300,000 metric tons of CO2 per year for 20 years.
  • Over the life of Phase 1 of Project Vanguard, the projected total cumulative stored CO2 will be about 72 million metric tons.

* Phase 2 will be comparable to Phase 1 in scope and capacity.
